The Little Greene Paint Company is an independent English paint manufacturer dedicated to producing high quality paints and wallpapers. With records dating back to 1773, the parent factory on the outskirts of Manchester, which is still in use today, is one of the oldest English paint and dye production sites.
Its location at the confluence of the Rivers Irk and Irwell was popular because of the fast flowing clean water available there from the Pennines. The natural resource of water was used both to power the paint grindstones and as an important ingredient in the products.
The first paints were based on natural resins and pigments and were similar to those used by the great painters of the day. Today, Little Greene still uses many of the tried and tested substances that were used back then to make its paints.
All colours are characterised by a special depth of colour: Their underlying hues change subtly in different lighting conditions, giving the colors their unique character. This is made possible by special formulations and a pigment content that is up to 40 percent higher than many other colours.
